Dr. William Tomlinson, MD
Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics
William P Tomlinson, MD graduated from Wirt County High School, Elizabeth, WV, in 1995. His father ran small businesses and worked construction. His mother worked as director of Community Services. It was his mother who lived an example of serving others. His father taught him problem-solving skills.
For a time, he worked construction in the Boilermakers. While he really enjoyed that work and still enjoys metalwork and general construction. However, he was drawn to science.
Growing up his family did not have a lot of resources. If something broke, they had to fix it. This taught him to approach problems as if they had never been solved before and come up with novel solutions.
This is one of his strengths today, finding creative solutions to medical problems and understanding how different pieces fit together.
After he left the Boilermakers he returned to college, started at WVUP, and eventually transferred to WVU. He worked at NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) doing research. It was here he learned the application of the basic sciences, but this was not for him. He wanted to do something to directly help people. Thus he entered WVU School of Medicine. He graduated in 2006 with his MD. He then went on to complete his training by doing an intense 4-year dual-track Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Residency Program.
He was appointed as co-chief of the IM/Peds Residency in the final year. In 2010, he sat for both the Internal Medicine and Pediatric board exams. Bypassing both he became Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.
In 2010, Dr. Tomlinson joined Dr. Armstrong’s space. Under Dr. Armstrong’s wing, he developed his own private practice. Kristina Finlaw was brought on as his nurse for several years. She went on to get her FNP and started seeing patients herself. Eventually, Kristina Finlaw was led to leave Dr. Tomlinson’s practice to serve in her hometown of Pomroy, OH. At the same time, it became obvious that the space at St. Joseph was not adequate for what Dr. Tomlinson and Dr. Armstrong felt the community needed for quality Pediatrics care.
A group of several like-minded healthcare businessmen and women came together and the plans for Garfield Medical Complex were formed, where healthcare professions who chose to put patients first could work together in one facility.
With the expanded needs of the community and now having the resources to supply these needs, Dr. Tomlinson needed to expand his team. Stacey Greenup, Pediatric NP with extensive pediatric experience was recruited from Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Alisha Fink, Family Nurse Practitioner joined the practice. Alisha, with a passion for Women’s Care. She brought with her experience with Obstetrics/Gynecology at Camden Clark Hospital.
Later on, Dr. Tomlinson saw another need in the community. Thankfully once again, the answer was provided and put in his path. The community needed psychiatric providers with pediatric experience. It was then that Janel Nuzum’s Practice was brought into the space to provide this much-needed service.
Dr. Tomlinson resides in Mineral Wells with his wife, Melissa, and three of his four boys. Melissa Tomlinson is his wife, business partner, and better half. She helps by managing the financials, payroll, and other issues.
Dr. Tomlinson likes to spend time with his family. If he is not working on a project in his garage, he is spending time outdoors. He enjoys skiing, boating, hunting, fishing, paintball, ATV riding.
Dr. Tomlinson attends Vienna Baptist Church and his faith plays a big role in how he cares for his family, patients, and team.
